Energy Center for Moelven’s New Pellet Plant

Moelven’snew pellet plant was inaugurated this week. AKJ Energiteknik built the new energy center for the pellet plant; this is the second facility we have built at Moelven Valåsen. The boiler was commissioned before the summer. The project was carried out while the sawmill was operating at full capacity, with a strong focus on logistics and safety (zero accidents), and was completed ahead of schedule and within budget. >, 12 MW, with excellent emission levels.

AKJ Energiteknik served as the general contractor for the new energy plant, which included earthwork and foundation work, concrete and construction work for the new boiler house, fuel conveyors, a combustion furnace, a boiler, flue gas cleaning with an electrostatic precipitator, mechanical, control, and electrical installations, as well as a heat distribution system with a total capacity of 40 MW.

The combustion equipment is equipped with AKJ’s combustion system featuring a moving grate for moist sawmill fuel and has been optimized to maximize operational availability and minimize emissions.

We at AKJ wish you the best of luck with the new pellet plant and would like to thank Moelven and all our partners.

18 MW wood chip-fired steam boiler – AKJ Energiteknik has once again been entrusted by Moelven to build a new energy plant with an 18 MW steam boiler for Vänerply

Moelven is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of sawn timber products. Moelven Vänerply is located in Otterbäcken, four mil north of Mariestad, and manufactures plywood from spruce and pine. Each year, the company produces approximately 90,000 m³ or about 6 mil m² of plywood. The plywood is manufactured by heating debarked logs through steaming, then turning them into veneers, which are subsequently dried. The drying process is energy-intensive, and production residues—such as bark, shavings, and wood chips—are used as fuel.

The current power plant was built in 1969 and will now be replaced by a new, modern steam plant. The contract includes earthwork and foundation work, concrete and construction work for the new boiler house and fuel storage facility, fuel conveyors, a combustion furnace, a boiler, flue gas cleaning with an electrostatic precipitator, mechanical and electrical installations, control systems, a backup boiler, and new steam and feedwater systems.

The steam boiler is designed as a water-tube boiler with a downstream economizer. The combustion equipment is based on AKJ’s combustion system with a moving grate system for moist sawmill fuels and is optimized to maximize operational availability and minimize emissions.

Preparatory work, project planning, and procurement are currently underway. We at AKJ would like to thank Moelven for this major order and look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration.

Falkenberg Boiler Plant Update

Progress is on schedule. Main equipment, piping, and the accumulator have been installed; electrical work is in progress, and commissioning will begin after the summer. AKJ Energiteknik is building a new biomass boiler plant that will transition Arla’s dairy facility in Falkenberg from fossil fuels to renewable sources, thereby decarbonizing the facility and enabling the continued growth of fossil-free district heating in Falkenberg.

Falkenberg Energi, which produces approximately 70 GWh annually, will own and operate the new boiler plant. Arla, the world’s largest producer of organic dairy products, operates Europe’s largest cottage cheese plant in Falkenberg. This facility produces Keso and protein products, with total production equivalent to about 100 million kg of milk per year.

The new boiler installation is being designed with an exterior architectural appearance in Corten steel color, featuring expanded metal components and special lighting. The entire facility is being constructed for fully automated, unmanned operation, including fuel handling, where wood chip trucks will enter the facility and unload their cargo with the doors closed.

The plant is designed for high operational availability and environmental performance and is being prepared for electricity generation using an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) turbine and flue gas condensation. The combustion equipment is primarily designed to burn local forest fuels, such as logging residues, and is equipped with AKJ’s advanced combustion and control systems in combination with SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction) NOx reduction equipment.

Oslo 10 MW—AKJ Energiteknik has been awarded a new contract and is building a new 10 MW pellet-fired boiler plant to provide reserve and peak-load capacity for the district heating network on the outskirts of Oslo.

The district heating network is currently supplied mainly with wood chips, but demand for district heating is increasing, and the company is now investing in a new boiler plant from AKJ Energiteknik that will replace the existing oil-fired boilers.

The combustion equipment utilizes AKJ’s advanced combustion system with a moving grate system for dry biofuels and is optimized to maximize operational availability and control range.

The contract includes the design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of two redundant boiler lines in the form of prefabricated boiler plants, fuel handling, pellet boilers, flue gas cleaning with electrostatic precipitators, mechanical, piping, and electrical installations, as well as control systems.
