Moelven is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of sawn timber and Valåsen is Moelven's largest sawmill. Valåsen is one of the most high-tech sawmills in the world with a strong focus on digitalization and energy efficiency and is now taking the next step with a new boiler plant from AKJ Energiteknik.
Bäckebron sawmill – New 8MW boiler plant
Bäckebron sawmill is located outside Sunne in Värmland and specializes in small timber. The plant is owned by Profura, Bernt Ivarsson and is now undergoing a major expansion where they are increasing production to 180,000m3sv. The existing boiler plant is 32 years old and to enable the expansion, they are now investing in a new modern fully automated boiler plant for moist sawmill fuels from AKJ Energiteknik.
The new boiler plant is being built in a disused pellet factory. AKJ Energiteknik is the turnkey contractor for the machinery and process equipment. The contract includes design, installation and commissioning of a complete boiler plant with fuel handling, incinerator, boiler, flue gas cleaning with electric filter, mechanical, pipe and electrical installations and control systems.
The combustion equipment is performed with AKJ's wet sawmill fuel combustion system with spruce and pine bark and optimized to maximize operational availability and low NOx values.
AKJ Energiteknik builds new 12MW boiler plant when Moelven Valåsen invests
Moelven is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of sawn timber and Valåsen is Moelven's largest sawmill. Valåsen is one of the most high-tech sawmills in the world with a strong focus on digitalization and energy efficiency and is now taking the next step with a new boiler plant from AKJ Energiteknik.
Bef 16MW boiler plant is about 20 years old and is being upgraded in parallel. The aim is to increase production with a new boiler line and at the same time extend the life and reduce the maintenance cost of the boiler.
AKJ is the turnkey contractor for the entire project, which includes ground and foundation work, concrete and construction work for a new boiler house and fuel storage, fuel conveyors, incinerator, boiler, flue gas treatment with electric filters, mechanical, piping and electrical installations and control systems.
Norrtälje Energy
AKJ Energiteknik installs new flue gas cleaning at Arstaverket in Norrtälje when bef chip boilers are supplemented with electrostatic precipitators 2x9MW. Norrtälje Energi supplies about 135GWh of district heating in Norrtälje, the plant in Arsta was built in 1993 with two chip boilers with associated flue gas condensation and was expanded in 2006 with a 25MW cogeneration plant.
It is the older part that is now being supplemented with two electrostatic precipitators to improve dust emissions and operating conditions for flue gas condensation. The contract includes the installation of electrostatic precipitators, installation of flue gas ducts, flue gas fans, insulation, construction and electrical and control installations.
Bioheat plant for Norway's largest wastewater treatment plant and biogas plant for vehicle gas.
The treatment plant treats wastewater from about 700 000 people daily at a rate of about 11m3/s. The new heating plant is used for the treatment process and for upgrading digester gas to vehicle gas. The vehicle gas is produced for conversion of public transport and will produce liquid biogas (bioLNG) equivalent to about 6 million liters of fossil diesel per year.
The delivery included a turn-key boiler plant based on AKJ Energiteknik's prefabricated modular system, pellet boiler 3MW, combined gas and bio-oil boiler 5MW, fuel handling, electrical, control and pipe installations and flue gas cleaning with electric filters.
The combustion equipment is designed with AKJ's combustion system with water-cooled movable grate system, electric ignition system, adapted for low maintenance and unmanned operation. The plant will be fired with wood pellets.
Västervik Energy
AKJ Energiteknik is currently modernizing the Gamleby plant with new fuel handling, new modern wood chip boilers of up to 7.5MW power and new flue gas cleaning and flue gas condensation. The district heating network is about 30GWh and the goal of the investment is to offer completely fossil-free energy production.
The new plant will be equipped with its own electricity production with ORC turbine, organic rankine cycle. The combustion equipment is carried out with AKJ's advanced combustion system and is adapted to optimize operational availability and fuel flexibility as the plant will be operated remotely via the operations center inside the Stegeholm plant in Västervik.
The contract covers the entire chain of fuel storage in the form of a submerged tipping bay with a sheet metal floor, bar feeders, grater rolls, fuel conveyors, combustion equipment for moist biofuel, hot water boilers, electric filters, flue gas condensation, ash handling, piping and electrical installations and control and monitoring systems with ABB 800XA.
