Inauguration Vänersborg 18MW

AKJ Energiteknik has built the boiler plant that is now used as a reserve and peak load power in Vänersborg. The plant was commissioned during the fall. Performance with good emission values. We at AKJ thank Vattenfall for a fun project, professional leadership and all partners for your strong commitment.

The district heating network in Vänersborg is approx. 160 GWh and is mainly supplied with waste heat from the Vargön Alloys smelter. Vargön Alloys produces ferroalloys for stainless steel and the process generates large amounts of excess heat that is recovered via exhaust gas boilers connected to the district heating network. The new pellet-fired plant is used when waste heat is not available or sufficient.

The combustion equipment is designed with AKJ's advanced variable grate combustion system for dry biofuels and optimized to maximize operational availability and control range. The contract included design, fabrication, erection and commissioning of two redundant boiler lines with fuel handling, incinerator, boiler, flue gas cleaning with electrostatic precipitator, mechanical, piping and electrical installations and control system.

Otterbäcken 18MW Update – Concrete work, manufacture of incinerator, water pipe boiler, eco, electric filter, chimney etc.

AKJ Energiteknik is building a new energy center with 18MW 30bar steam boiler for Moelven Vänerply. Moelven is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of sawn timber. Moelven Vänerply is located in Otterbäcken, four miles north of Mariestad, and manufactures plywood from spruce and pine. Each year, about 90,000 m3 or about 6 million m2 of plywood is produced. The plywood is manufactured by heating debarked logs through basing and then turning them into veneer, which is then dried. The drying process is energy-intensive and the residues from production in the form of bark, shavings and chips are used as fuel.

The bef energy center was built in 1969 and will now be replaced with a new modern steam plant. The contract includes earthworks and foundations, concrete and construction works for a new boiler house and fuel storage, fuel conveyors, incinerator, boiler, flue gas cleaning with electric filter, mechanical and electrical installations, control system, back-up boiler, and new steam and feedwater system.

The steam boiler is performed as a water tube boiler with subsequent economizer. The combustion equipment is carried out with AKJ's variable grate combustion system for moist sawmill fuels and is optimized to maximize operational availability and minimize emissions.

Knivsta 5MW pellets/chips update, see link to report from Bioenergitidningen

AKJ Energiteknik has delivered a prefabricated boiler plant with a 5MW bio boiler that is fired with both wood chips and pellets. The plant is equipped with a chip pocket for side and rear tipping and two pellet silos.

Knivsta is located between Stockholm and Uppsala and is an expansive municipality where two new sustainable neighborhoods with 15000 new homes are planned. The existing district heating plant produces about 50GWh annually, the plant currently has two biofuel boilers of 15MW and 5MW. The new boiler replaces the older 5MW boiler and will serve as a summer and peak load boiler. The goal of the investment is to offer completely fossil-free district heating.

The contract included the design, installation and commissioning of a complete boiler plant with fuel handling, incinerator, boiler, flue gas cleaning with electric filter, mechanical, piping and electrical installations and control systems.

The combustion equipment was designed with AKJ's dry biofuel combustion system with pellets and wood chips and is optimized to maximize operational availability and control range.

Kiruna 10MW pellets update: AKJ Energiteknik has delivered two prefabricated boiler centers to Kiruna for planned reserve and peak load power.

Kiruna is undergoing extensive urban transformation due to the expanding mining industry, while the energy system is being converted to be supplied mainly with waste heat from LKAB in the future. LKAB's ore refining processes generate large amounts of excess heat in the chemical reaction that occurs when magnetite oxidizes to hematite, after which iron ore concentrates are pelletized into transportable balls. The waste heat is part of a larger green transition with the goal of Kiruna becoming climate neutral. Existing waste and oil boilers are planned to be replaced gradually. The new pellet boilers now function as plannable peak and reserve load boilers.

The boilers were delivered as prefabricated modular boiler centers, so-called TPC, (transportable boiler center) with a pellet boiler of 5MW in each boiler center. The boiler centers have been prefabricated in the workshop and were designed in maximum size to be moved and driven on the road without barriers and police escorts.

The combustion equipment has been designed with AKJ's water-cooled moving grate combustion system for dry biofuels with pellets and optimized to maximize operational availability and control range.

The contract included the design, manufacture, assembly and commissioning of complete boiler plants with fuel handling, incinerator, boiler, flue gas cleaning with electric filters, mechanical, piping and electrical installations and control systems.

This week, Årjäng's new district heating plant was inaugurated. AKJ Energiteknik has built the new wood chip boiler that was commissioned earlier this fall

Årjäng is located in Västra Värmland and the district heating network is about 20GWh. The contract included fuel handling with rod feeder, incinerator with movable grate system, hot water boiler, ash discharge, flue gas cleaning with electric filter, flue gas condensation, chimney, mechanical, pipe, electrical and control installations.

The combustion equipment has been designed with AKJ's combustion system with moving grate and advanced controls for sawmill waste in the form of bark and sawdust as well as chips and grot. The plant is optimized to maximize annual efficiency, operational availability and minimize emissions.

We at AKJ thank all parties involved and wish good luck with the new facility

Oslo 2x5MW

AKJ Energiteknik has during the fall delivered two modular pellet boilers 5MW for reserve and peak load power to district heating networks in the outskirts of Oslo. At the moment, the first boiler is being dried and the assembly is being finalized.

The district heating network uses bio-oil for toplast, which is now planned to be replaced by pellets. The combustion equipment is carried out with a water-cooled moving grate system for pellets but is also prepared for wood chips.
