Falkenberg Energi 10 MW (5+5 MW)

A boiler plant that is converting Arla Foods’ dairy in Falkenberg from fossil fuels to renewable energy and enabling the continued expansion of fossil-free district heating in Falkenberg.

Falkenberg Energi produces approximately 70 GWh annually and owns and operates the boiler plant. Arla is the world’s largest producer of organic dairy products. Arla’s dairy in Falkenberg is Europe’s largest cottage cheese dairy and produces, among other things, Keso and protein products. Total production amounts to approximately 100 million kg of milk per year.

The boiler plant features an exterior architectural design in Corten steel, with elements made of expanded metal and special lighting. The entire facility is designed for fully automated, unmanned operation with fuel handling, where wood chip trucks drive into the facility and unload with the gates closed.

The facility has been designed for high operational availability and environmental performance and is being prepared for electricity generation using an ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) turbine and flue gas condensation. The combustion equipment has been adapted to primarily burn local forest fuels in the form of logging residues and is equipped with AKJ’s advanced combustion and control systems in combination with SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction) NOx reduction equipment.

The contract covered site preparation, foundation work, concrete work, the structural frame, superstructure, weighbridge, fuel handling with an overhead crane, a wood chip boiler with SNCR, a biogas boiler, a storage tank, flue gas cleaning with an electrostatic precipitator, an emergency power generator, and piping, electrical, control, and monitoring systems using Citect.
